Situated on the lower part of the hillside, it owes its cassis or garnet-red colours to the reddish soils which combine limestone, clay, and smithereens / fragments of flint limestone. In the mouth, it is rather soft / tender but sometimes be masculine and robust thanks to its good tannic structure.

This gravelly, chalky clay-like soil from the Bajocian era, on top of fossilised scree made of white oolite (south end of the Côte de Nuits), produces structured wines with black fruit, cassis and blackberry aromas. Robuist, structured, full of sap the first few years, it becomes racy and elegant after 4-or 5 years.

Chalky soil with fossils (entorques) from the Bajocian era mixed with dark red clay, and flat stones (laves). A rich and well balanced wine with great character, and with black fruits and flowers aromas. Both powerful and elegant.
Le Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Vineyard situated in the upper part of the clos. Same soil as Les Echezeaux with heavier earth containing iron.
Robust and powerful wine, with black fruit aromas. After 10 to 15 years of maturing made possible by a good tannic structure, aromas of candied fruits and liquorice stand out.
